WHAT DO YOU DO AT THE REAL ART COMPANY?
I am the technical manager of all in house print related processes.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ART WORK?
Together by Deborah Azzopardi.
WHY DO YOU LOVE THIS PIECE?
Because it is chest brilliant..hahaha. Actually I'm really into anime and pop art. This vector-esque style of art really appeals to me. The relaxed fluidity of the lines and yet by contrast their sharp precision is something I'm really switched on to. This style is familiar to us all, from the mono inking of Virgil Finley in the 20's-40's, through the screenprints of Mouse & Kelly and the surf art dudes of the 60's and onto the whole Warhol NY thing, whilst throughout this whole century has been the ever present cartoon that kept us all quiet for hours on a Saturday morning and now with the Japanese anime taking up the baton from the American houses of Marvel & DC comics it just goes on transmogrifying. The sheer depth and breadth of it is staggering, and yet its really only been around for less than a century, so in the grand history of 5000 years of mans artistic expression it's a newbie style. Reinvention is the key to longevity of an art form and we need to keep art fresh without casting off our predecessors as irrelevent. And beside all that blather, any chick that's turning undergarments into an art form is alright by me. Rock on Deborah.
WHICH SPACE IN YOUR LIFE DO YOU MOST WANT TO FILL WITH ART AND WHY?
Art is the vital force that gets me up and at it each day. I live and breath art, it surrounds me at home and at work. There is no wallpaper in existence (sorry William Morris)that can compete with a tin of magnolia and a bloody good print. Were lucky these days to have access to affordable fine art and the ability to change our wall prints as often as we wish. Remember our grandparents were stuck with the same old faded Turners, Wainwrights or the creepy Laughing Cavalier for decades! Thank TRAC we've moved on.
