Touching Strangers

by Nick Boyce 12/11/2008 15:24:00

I've really enjoyed the Touching Strangers series of photographs by Richard Renaldi. The premise is simple - the artist asked strangers to pose for a photograph where they are in physical contact with each other.

Stunning new book design by Alys Paterson

by KATY ELLIOTT 04/11/2008 15:37:00

Check out this delicious new book design for Atlantic Books, by our very own Alys Paterson! Isn't it fab?!

Recently commissioned to create a new look for the cover of 'Encyclopaedia of Ordinary Life' by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Alys put paint to paper and designed this beautiful, magical piece of artwork. We love it!

Don't forget that you can purchase your very own Alys Paterson canvas from The Real Art Company collection. A great Christmas pressie idea we think!

Street animation by Blu

by KATY ELLIOTT 29/10/2008 17:45:00

We just couldn't keep this to oursleves! Check out this mind-blowing video from Italian graffiti artist Blu.

Specializing in international public street-art on an epic scale, Blu creates truly impressive, often unnerving works of art. You may have seen one of Blu's works in the flesh at the Street Art exhibition at the Tate Modern in London during the summer (23 May – 25 August 2008)! Blu worked along side other graffiti kings' Faile, JR, Nunca, Os Gêmeos and Sixeart to create large-scale pieces on the building's iconic river façade - the first major public museum display of street art in London.

Whether it be his static large scale drawings and paintings, or his animation masterpieces, you cannot help but be impressed!

topping the charts - 3 of the top ten canvas prints are from The real art company!

by KATY ELLIOTT 29/10/2008 12:54:00

The team at MyDeco know more than most about home decor and wall art. They bring together the widest possible range of products from high street stores to niche retailers meaning that they get to see, try and test more wall art than anyone else.

So, we were more than a little pleased when we discovered that three of their Top Ten Canvas Prints under £50 were from The Real Art Company!

Including the number 1 spot which went to our Sam Toft and her Small Dog, seen below. Chart toppers at last!

Bags of fun - Joshua Allen Harris Street Art

by Mark McGinn 27/10/2008 14:39:00

We spotted this little street art project from the streets of Manhattan by artist Joshua Allen Harris and had to share it with you all.

From plastic bags Harris creates animals and creatures which he attaches to Subway grills around Manhattan. These come to life, surprising unsupecting passers by, with the wind from passing subway trains. When the wind stops the inflatable creatures fall to the ground and rest like litter until the next train brings them back to life. A circle of life which continues for as long as the trains run.

See the artist and his creations in this video from New York Magazine:

Do we need art galleries anymore?

by Mark McGinn 16/10/2008 18:28:00

Today in The Independent newspaper Annie Deacon, acting editor of mydeco, asks if we still need art galleries or whether the conditions and technology in the world mean that art buying has shifted online? She quotes The Real Art Company as an example of the type of site that is luring art buyers online. Which is great.

As far we're concerned, we believe that the huge choice offered online and the ease of purchase means that many people will choose to buy art online. However we also believe there is a very important role for galleries as it is where people can continue to experience art in person. A touchy feely experience. Finally, we believe that there are enough art lovers out there like us to keep the art galleries on the high street and the art galleries online busy. The more of us the better!

Sports Portraits Auction

by Mark McGinn 16/10/2008 13:50:00

This week we have received and processed Sir Peter Blake's wonderful portrait of Ricky Hatton in preparation for the release of the final Sport Relief Sports Portrait next week. As you know we have been waiting for this final piece to be finished for some time but it was certainly worth the wait - the Godfather of pop art is at his best.

The original painting, along with all the original Sport Relief Sports Portraits by Stella Vine, Jack Vettriano, Sir Peter Blake, Rankin, and Gerald Scarfe will go under the hammer at Bonhams on 22 October 2008. So those with deep pockets can find themselves the perfect Christmas gift. We'll see you all in the Auction room.

the artist's milkround

by Mark McGinn 24/09/2008 13:06:00

The neighbours of artist Charlotte Hughes-Martin noticed that their empty milk bottles were going missing. What they didn't expect was for them to be returned soon afterwards looking better than ever. This was because Charlotte had decided that she wanted to place her art, glass etching, in more unusual places. This included her neighbours' milk bottles. A nice surprise in the morning we thought.

A little better than a gnome

by Mark McGinn 18/09/2008 18:28:00

In the stunning grounds of arguably Britain's finest stately home is a new exhibiton of modern and contemporary sculpture called Beyond Limits. In partnership with Sotheby's, Chatsworth House is displaying more than 20 sculptures which are available to buy, if you have the funds. The scupltures look befitting of such a magnificent setting.
